Regular servicing of an alarm system ensures the system's reliability and durability. It is important to have your intruder alarm system serviced at least once a year. Most insurance companies require proof of alarm maintenance carried out by an approved company.

A typical scheduled service visit would encompass the following:

• Revue the log and history of the alarm system since last maintenance service including anecdotal accounts from users.
• Inspect all major alarm components including accessible cabling & connections for signs of deterioration or damage.
• Check mains power supply .
• Check battery power supply including charging rates and storage life of battery.
• Walk test all detectors and sample battery voltage if wireless .
• Replace batteries if necessary ( additional cost ).
• Check satisfactory operation of panic buttons and other manually operated devices.
• Test remote signalling and / or autodial equipment if fitted.
• Make minor adjustments if necessary.
• Repair minor faults where necessary.
• Update on site paperwork.
• Return the alarm system to operational status.
• Issue maintenance contract for insurance purposes if under contract.
• For bells only and autodial systems the above schedule should be completed once a year, for monitored systems with police response it is mandatory to carry out the above twice a year.
