British Security Technologies: Home and Business Security Specialists since 1991

You know, in my life I’ve had a lot of jobs, tried different things. But the best job I’ve ever had is burglary. A nice living and no real effort involved. Some of householders they almost help you. And with my connections getting rid of the gear in no problem, one job a week and I’m sorted.

As I say, some of the householders they almost help you, don’t take even the most simple precautions to keep me out. Never mind no burglar alarm, there’s windows left open, doors left unlocked, keys left by the door. You see I don’t want to do time for my job so I look for the softest targets, the ones where there’s no lights on night after night, where the posts been there several days, ones where the curtains are always undrawn, where the milks been there several days. That tells me straight away there’s no one home, far less chance of any problems. Some of them even leave a key under the door matt or on a string inside the letterbox!

Of course if the house is well secured there’s always the shed or garage, you see people forget about those things and there’s a nice profit to be had from knocked off lawn mowers, garden furniture, bikes, tools, that kind of thing. If I am lucky I can even got into the house from the garage, thank you very much.

Most days I just go for a walk, take a look around and suss out a few easy targets. Then it’s a quick in and out and a nice profit. The only places I leave alone are the ones where the owners been a bit savvy, everything locked up, signs that people are at home, good lighting and all. Publicity isn’t the thing in my business! Then there’s the biggest turn off of all, a good burglar alarm, best to leave them alone especially when so many places are there for the taking.

Crime’s in my blood, it’s how I make my living, if I do get caught and go down I’ll just start all over again when I get out. Plenty more easy victims out there.

If you don’t want to be this guy’s next victim then:

  • Always check who’s at the door and don’t open it if you feel anxious.
  • Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you are only going out for a few minutes.
  • Keep your valuables out of sight.
  • Leave some lights on if it will be dark before you get home.
  • Install a visible burglar alarm from British Security Technologies.
  • Always keep sheds and outbuildings locked.
  • Cancel milk or other deliveries if you will be away for days or weeks at a time.
  • Leave radios or lights in your house on a timer.
  • Make sure the fences around your garden are in good condition.
  • Secure bikes at home by locking them to an immoveable object inside a locked shed or garage.
  • Keep ladders and tools stored away; don't leave them outside where they could be used to break into your home.
  • Consider PIR sensors to switch on lights when movement is detected around your property after darkness.
  • Do not leave your car keys or ID documents near doors, letterbox or windows.
